The Town of Rolesville is pleased to announce the new Chief of the Rolesville Police Department. Captain David R. Simmons II, who has served as the department’s Interim Chief of Police since December 2020, has been appointed and officially sworn in to the role. An outdoor public ceremonial swearing in will take place on Friday, March 19th at 2:00pm in the parking lot of Redford Place Park located at 121 Redford Place Drive, Rolesville, NC.
Rolesville Town Manager Kelly Arnold says, “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of David Simmons as the next Rolesville Police Chief. During the past few months, I have had the opportunity to meet with employees of the Rolesville Police Department and community members. It became obvious to me that Chief Simmons is the right choice for our next Chief of Police. From my years of local government management experience, I understand the importance of quality policing services to the community. Chief Simmons conveys this importance with his actions and dedication to the community. We are grateful that he chose to return back to Rolesville after starting his career here. He knows Rolesville and the region. Most importantly he will strive to meet the demands of the position and community. On behalf of the Rolesville organization, we are excited to have Chief Simmons lead the Department.”
Chief Simmons is a familiar face to the Rolesville Police Department and the Rolesville area. A graduate of East Wake High School in Wendell, NC, he began his law enforcement career with the Rolesville Police Department in April 2003. After serving nearly four years with the department, Chief Simmons became a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in January 2007 and served in the local region. He was later assigned to the Special Operations Unit, where he served in the areas of executive protection, motorcycle operator instructor, and Assistant State Director for BikeSafe NC.
After an exhaustive selection process, Chief Simmons later rejoined the Rolesville Police Department in September of 2017 as Captain, serving as the Division Commander for both the Patrol and Support Services Divisions. Chief Simmons served in this capacity for three years before being selected as the department’s Interim Chief of Police.
During his tenure as a law enforcement officer, Chief Simmons has achieved numerous educational achievements and accolades. He has received the Trilogy Award from the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Program and graduated from North Carolina State University’s 83rd Session of the Administrative Officer’s Management Program. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice through Wake Technical Community College, and he is currently nearing completion of his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Mount Olive.
Possessing a service driven mindset, Chief Simmons makes it a priority to reach out to the citizens he serves. He has been instrumental in assessing and improving programs and policies in Rolesville, and he recognizes that safety is one of the most important values to the community. His ideals and principles are commensurate with the highest standards in the law enforcement community. His memberships with the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police will serve the Rolesville community well, as he seeks to continue the Rolesville Police Department’s professional policing standards.
“I am humbled and truly honored to serve as the next Chief of Police for the Rolesville Police Department” according to Chief Simmons. “I look forward to continue working alongside a great group of dedicated professionals who are committed to public service and safety. I am committed to leading the Rolesville Police Department to be an active and engaged part of this community in building strong collaborative relationships with our citizens.
