NC DHHS Certifies WakeMed’s Healthplex in Rolesville

WakeMed officially received the certificate of need (CON) to build the health system’s newest healthplex in Rolesville. The Rolesville Healthplex will be home to WakeMed’s sixth healthplex and tenth full-service emergency department.

The 32,000 square-foot facility—WakeMed Rolesville Healthplex—will offer a 24/7 emergency department with 12 treatment rooms alongside diagnostic imaging, lab and pharmacy services. An estimated 7,965 patients are expected to receive treatment in the WakeMed Rolesville Emergency Department during its first year.

"This will be a massive benefit for people in Rolesville,” said Rolesville Mayor Ronnie Currin. “As we continue to grow, access to nearby medical facilities is crucial. This facility will enhance our response to emergencies as well as provide high-quality care to the residents of Rolesville."

During WakeMed’s 2024 fiscal year, the health system treated 44,000 patients from Rolesville, Wake Forest, Youngsville, and north/northeast Raleigh in its Emergency Departments.

“We are pleased that the State approved the application, demonstrating the need for convenient, high-quality care in the Rolesville area and surrounding communities,” said Carolyn Knaup, senior vice president of Strategic Ventures & Ambulatory Operations for WakeMed. “The opportunity to bring additional care to these rapidly growing northeastern Wake County communities allows us to better serve our patients and their families, ensuring WakeMed is well positioned to meet the need for the benefit of those we serve.”

WakeMed Rolesville Healthplex will be located at the corner of Burlington Mills Road and Walls Cove Lane. Construction is slated to begin in spring 2026 with an anticipated opening in fall 2027.
