Rolesville, N.C. – On August 21, 2026, the Triangle Business Journal released an article titled, “Wake County health systems seek 700 hospital beds. But only 233 are up for grabs”. In light of the details highlighted, the Town of Rolesville would like to provide residents with the most current information regarding the WakeMed Rolesville Healthplex project, which is seeking to build a WakeMed Emergency Department.
What to know:
- The WakeMed Rolesville Healthplex application is listed under REZ-25-06, REZ-25-0001, and ANX-26-0002 for WakeMed’s rezoning and annexation, and would authorize twelve (12) treatment rooms (or beds) with the WakeMed Emergency Department Healthplex facility.
- Any request for additional beds, as highlighted in the article, or new projects will require WakeMed to submit a new application for review and approval.
In October 2025, WakeMed received the Certificate of Need (CON) from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) to build the Rolesville Healthplex. The approved 32,000-square-foot facility will include a 24/7 Emergency Department with 12 treatment rooms, along with diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and a pharmacy. WakeMed estimates that approximately 7,965 patients will be treated in the Rolesville Emergency Department during its first year of operation.
The proposed WakeMed Emergency Department Rolesville will be located at the corner of Burlington Mills Road and Walls Cove Lane. The facility is anticipated to open in fall of 2027.
