Payment Scam Targeting Rolesville Residents and Customers

Rolesville, N.C. – The Town of Rolesville is alerting residents to fraudulent emails circulating that falsely claim to be verification messages associated with a GovWell account. The emails request that recipients verify bank accounts connected to their accounts.

The Town is aware of reports of these messages and encourages residents to use caution when receiving unexpected requests to verify financial information.

Example of the reported phishing email:

This message is part of an ongoing scam. If you receive an unexpected or unfamiliar invoice that appears to come from the Town of Rolesville, please contact the Planning Department directly at 919-554-6517 to confirm that the invoice is legitimate. The Town of Rolesville sends official communications from email addresses ending in @rolesvillenc.gov.

Verification emails from the Planning Department are sent through https://app.govwell.com/rolesville/pay and will list a designated case number. These emails will not require any type of deposit process, unlike what is described in the phishing message. Other town payments will be sent from noreply@incode.tylerhosting.cloud.

Invoices that come through the payment portal will include a detailed record of the service provided. This will typically outline the service description, the date the service was completed, and instructions for submitting payment through the GovWell payment portal rather than a dashboard.

Please also note that the Town will never add a bank account to a GovWell account on behalf of a customer. Any bank‑account setup or updates must be completed directly by the customer.

Residents are strongly advised to report and then delete these messages as soon as possible. Please refrain from clicking on any links or providing any personal or financial information in response.
