Little Medical School

 Summer/Fall registration begins May 18 for residents and June 1 for non-residents!

Little Veterinarian School: Cat

Description: Students will role-play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian and perform a whiskers-to-tail exam on their newly “adopted” plush cat. These future veterinarians will learn about animal body language, maintaining a healthy environment such as proper litterbox placement, create a cat toy, and design a vet clinic.

Little Doctor School: Pre-K

Description: Our youngest future doctors will use a real stethoscope and other medical instruments, learn how muscles and nerves work together, cast a broken bone, and how to properly scrub their hands before surgery.

Day:      Saturdays

Dates:  August 26, 2023 - October 7, 2023 (no class on September 2)

Little Doctor School: Two

Description: These future doctors will learn about prescriptions, explore the brain and spine, and learn about vital bodily functions through hands-on activities and role-play. Students will build a first aid kit and create models of the brain and spine. (Please note that Little Doctor School 1, 2 and 3 do not have to be taken in sequence.)

Transforming Your Health: A Health Coaching Series

Description: Do you feel overwhelmed by a new or on-going health challenge such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or stress? Do you want to be more in control of your health but are unsure of where to start? 

This three-part series will take you on a journey to gain back control of your health and wellness. In week one, you will explore your vision and values and identify one area of focus that you would like to transform. In week two, you will create SMART goals and actionable steps toward this transformation. In week three, you will gain deeper insight into your goals and learn how to carry your health vision forward. At the end of this three-part series, you will be empowered to thrive in your best health in ways most meaningful to you. 

Instructor: Dr. Melissa Poston is a nursing professional with over a decade of experience in healthcare. As a Duke Certified Integrative Health Coach, she provides a holistic approach toward empowering clients as they implement lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellness.

Death By Design: Advance Care Planning

Description: Making end of life healthcare decisions for yourself or someone you love can be overwhelming. Planning for the future has been shown to improve the quality of care people receive at the end of their lives. This class will explore the basics of advance care planning; how to start meaningful conversations with your loved ones, the benefits of advance care planning and important documents to review with your family and medical team. 

Instructor: Dr. Melissa Poston is a nursing professional with over a decade of experience in healthcare. She understands that navigating through healthcare systems can often be confusing and overwhelming. She is excited to explore advance care planning in this class so that you may become more comfortable expressing and documenting your medical wishes to your family and loved ones.
