- Due to current weather projections that indicate this weekend's winter storm is likely to significantly impact our area, Wake County has declared a State of Emergency.
- Due to the anticipated effects of Winter Storm Fern, Wake County will open two emergency shelters at 3 p.m. today to provide residents with a safe place to take refuge. They include:
- Heritage High School
1150 Forestville Road
Wake Forest - Southeast Raleigh High School
2600 Rock Quarry Road

- Heritage High School
- People taking shelter should bring:
- Prescription medications
- Special need items, such as eyeglasses, contact lens solution, hearing aid batteries, etc.
- Extra clothing
- Items for infants/young children, such as formula, diapers, bottles, etc.
- Cash
- The shelters are pet friendly. Pet owners should bring all the items they need for their pet’s care, including medications, crates, leashes, pet food, cat litter and pans, etc.
- Wake County continues to monitor weather conditions from the Emergency Operations Center.
- Residents and visitors should monitor news reports and weather forecasts to see how the storm is progressing and better understand how it may impact Wake County. They are also encouraged to sign up to receive ReadyWake emergency alerts. They can choose to get important information delivered directly to them by text, email or phone. As of Friday at 4:30 p.m., here are important updates regarding this weekend’s ice storm:
Closings
- Due to inclement weather, town offices will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
- Right now, town offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This is subject to change depending on the weather.
Public Works
- Trash pick up will be delayed by at least one day.
- Public Works staff are salting key roads and parking lots around town.
- Loose-leaf collection will be delayed until at least Wednesday next week.
- Our Public Works team is asking all residents to avoid street parking during inclement weather, so their equipment can operate without delays.
Safety Message from Rolesville Police
- Please do not call 911 unless there is an emergency posing an immediate threat to life, health, or property.
- All non-emergency calls, including reports of icy road conditions and immediate needs for service, should be placed to (919) 829-1911.
- Drivers are strongly urged to stay off the roads. If you must venture out:
- Remove ice and snow from your vehicle, particularly from the hood, windows, and roof
- Turn on your headlights
- Give extra following distance to allow more stopping time on slippery surfaces.

Parks & Recreation
- All recreation activities and cultural events are canceled through Monday.
- The Senior Trip to Caesars Virginia on January 27, 2026, will be postponed to a later date.
